還有一個小時便是總統候選人第一場辯論會，起碼有一億美國人會收看。在等候辯論開始之前，我記得1980年卡達總統和挑戰者列根那唯一一場的辯論，是到最後陳詞的時候列根才完全獲得美國民心，結果這個「B級電影影員」成功地以雷霆萬鈞之勢擊敗卡達總統。我想，假如我是特朗普，我會如何作最後的陳詞（closing argument）呢？以下便是我的版本，因時間所限，我只用英文寫出來：
My fellow Americans:
The stakes in this election cannot be higher. So are the differences between my policies and my governance philosophy from Mrs. Clinton’s. 36 years ago, in a similar debate, President Ronald Reagan asked Americans the question: are you better off than you were 4 years ago? Tonight, I want to ask you a similar question: are you better off than 8 years ago? Are you safer than 8 years ago? Are you more prosperous than 8 years ago? Is your healthcare better and cheaper than 8 years ago? Is the government more transparent and trustworthy than 8 years ago? Is America more highly regarded in the world than 8 years ago? Are we more effective in dealing with international terrorism than 8 years ago? Do your children face a better future than 8 years ago? If your answer to these questions is Yes, then you ought to vote for Mrs. Clinton because she will continue what President Obama has been doing. But if your answer is NO, then I ask you to vote for true change, and true change can only come from an outsider like me, Donald J. Trump.
My policies will bring prosperity and wealth back to Americans, because I know how to create jobs and re-negotiate trade agreements. My policies will bring growth back to our economy, because I will cut both individual and corporate taxes significantly, and reduce government waste at the same time. My policies will bring security to you and your loved ones, because I will build that wall and I will enforce existing immigration laws. And I will not admit any immigrant to America unless they have been vetted thoroughly and found to commit to love our system and our people, and be willing to assimilate into American society. My policies will bring a new spirit and new hopes to the poorest areas of our country — the inner cities, the Afro-American and Latino communities — so they have the same opportunities that many of us enjoy. My policies will reduce crimes and riots significantly by giving law enforcement and border patrols the resources they need to keep our borders and our cities safe. My policies will rebuild our military which has been weakened and depleted to the point that we can no longer defend ourselves against our enemies. My policies will bring new hopes and honor to America again. My policies will bring unity and harmony to our divided nation which has witnessed citizens of different skin colors attacking each other, citizens and police attacking each other, and the have’s and have-not’s opposing each other. America’s brightest future is ahead of us, if we elect someone who has the vision, the leadership, the strength, and the right ideas so America can be safe again for everyone, America can be prosperous again for everyone, and America can be great again, for everyone.
